Having your name etched in granite on the prestigious Surfing Walk of Fame at the early age of 26 is no easy feat. Yet such is the fate of one Courtney Conlogue a young surfer from Santa Ana. Yet this is not the first time Courtney has made headlines in surfing news. She has had remarkable success in her surfing career having had taken the world of surfing by storm since a tender age of four. According to the OC Register, she has caught the eye of photographers and sponsors from the world over and is normally the focal point of most competitions where she takes part.
Earlier on in the year, Conlogue was sidelined by a serious injury but she still managed to come back from it and win the US open right in front of her home crowd. This remarkable comeback and achievement has crowned her overall career success and earned her a slot among top legendary surfers of all time. Other honorees include the amazing surfing pioneer Reynolds alias Renny and Jeff Divine. There are also some local and international heroes who will receive recognition for their unique contributions to surf culture.
The Surfing Walk of Fame Ceremony
The ceremony itself will happen at the Huntington Beach during the US open of Surfing. For those new in Huntington, this is on the main street and pacific coast high way right in front of Jack’s Surfboards.
Like some of the most professional surfers who made it before her, Conlogue learnt to catch a wave at a very early age of four. Even at such a tender age, she still managed to catch the eye sponsors with her incredible moves. Coaches and fans call her ‘lil tiger’ and watching her perform is simply mind blowing.
The top surfer has cut her notch for herself among the top female surfers the world over having competed in the US open since she was eleven. Last year’s win was the second one for her as she also won the same championship in 2009. This time having come back from the bench, Conlogue is only in her prime and is expected to be catching waves for a long time coming. This comes as great motivation for the pro and her fans and the industry has done her well in boosting her morale.
This is the 26th year of the Surfing Walk of fame and as is the custom, inductees were chose from hundreds of candidates through a free and fair ballot process which is undertaken by some industry veterans and current inductees. The main aim of the award is to grow surfing culture around the world by recognizing the contributions of surfers and people in the surfing world for their unique contributions.
During its 25 years of existence, the Surfing Walk of Fame has seen the nurturing of talent, brands, local and international heroes and most importantly the ushering of the sport from backstreet to Mainstreet. Come 1st August, all roads lead to Huntington for the US open.
